IE7 delayed to possibly get it right
Encouraging news from Microsoft. Matt Cutts covers Microsoft’s decision to delay the release of Vista,
its new operating system. Microsoft, its critics would say, has in the
past been all to quick to rush out releases to meet some arbitrary
deadline. If they are taking the time to make sure its right out of the box, all the better.Dave Shea posts a really good piece from MIX06 on Internet Explorer 7 development.
The details on CSS implementation might not be your thing (it’s an
addiction I’m rapidly kicking), but the general theme is important -
Microsoft recognises it took its eye off the ball on Internet Explorer. In doing so, it allowed new browsers to emerge to meet demand - most
notably Mozilla Firefox, but others too like Camino and (the still
emerging) Flock. Internet Explorer 7 appears to look and behave much
like Firefox. Some criticise this, but there is a reason for doing so -
Firefox works and has won over many friends.I, for one, will be quick to congratulate Microsoft if 7 meets that
high standard, because if Microsoft gets it right, it benefits 80 to 90
per cent of internet users. And that can’t be a bad thing, can it?
